Episode 234: A Well-Oiled Underground Bartender Rape Railroad (S24E17 Lime Chaser)
Things aren't going well for Churlish, Velasco, and Muncy this week as their bitter arguments over Churlish's white-foods-only habit reaches a boiling point. This week, we meet Muncy's brother Teddy, who is also Stabler's brother, who is also Kat's real-life husband. He leads us down the rabbit hole into a world of macho, MMA-training bartenders who work as gophers for a bizarre ring of South Asian chemists who procure unconscious young professionals to be raped by awful Canadian businessmen. Yeah, there's a lot going on here guys.
Episode 224: We Know Whether JD Vance Shaves, Or Not, In His Grindr Profile (S25E12 Marauder)
In our first brush with Season 25 of SVU, we are immediately thrown into a deep backstory flashback featuring a character hitherto unknown to Munch My Benson. If that wasn't jarring enough, a certain hit single from the seminal '90s album Pocket Full Of Kryptonite features heavily in said flashback, which obviously means the Munchie Boys have A LOT of reminiscing to do about Spin Doctors. In a shocking twist, Vice Presidential candidate--and couch lover--JD Vance might have made an appearance here as well. Lots to unpack folks.
Episode 223: Why Don’t They Have Someone Sexily Peel off a CPAP? (S24E15 King Of The Moon)
There are strange eps of the longest running primetime drama in TV history, but none come close to matching what happens this week. To say that the last 4 minutes of this Law & Order: Special Victims Unit are unlike any moment in the show's 25+ years of existence would be an obscene understatement. Guest star Bradley Whitford goes for it in ways that you simply are not prepared to see.
Episode 215: God, I Miss Neal Baer (S23E6 The Five Hundredth Episode)
Cold Case comes in with a cold case, and Olivia's ancient history comes screaming into this week's big-round-numbered installment of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The old friends who join us this week are a welcome sight. Olivia's personal relationship with an older man alluded to in prior episodes, however, was much less welcome, as everyone around her tells her what she needs to hear while she bafflingly ignores their advice and is a real jerk to an old partner in the process.
Episode 212: The Load Distance King Of Lancashire (S21E1 I'm Going To Make You A Star)
When the Randomizer chose an SVU featuring one of the Munchie Boys' all-time favorite actors (Ian McShane) as the Harvey-Weinstein-esque heel in Warren Leight's triumphant return to showrunnerdom, we were understandably excited. While McShane shines, certain choices by said showrunner leave the boys baffled and wishing for what might (should?) have been.
Episode 211: Oh, He Wants to Plumb Her Depths (S23E14 Video Killed The Radio Star)
A shock jock cut from the same cloth as any number of high-profile sexual predators (be they Hollywood execs, former Presidents, or unassuming television hosts) enters the world of SVU, and everyone loses their minds. Or at least forgets how things like logic, character motivations, or professional storytelling would dictate where the episode should go. With plot holes as gaping as the Grand Canyon, this exasperating journey into the world of the undercover triple-crossing faux private eye crime genre will try one's patience while still approaching being fun.
Episode 208: Trial Chief Ghislaine Maxwell (S24E4 The Steps We Cannot Take)
A DIY renovation leads to a kidnapped daughter which leads to yet another case referencing the Ariel Castro and Josef Fritzl kidnapping cases. This one introduces us to notorious welder, Elias Olsen, who we at Munch My Benson first met in his final appearance in "Bad Things" (S24E21). Can Grace Muncy's colorblindness and Fin's Eric Adams impression save us from Graziano fatigue?
Episode 206: That’s Not Egg Foo Young on Your Tongue (S24E22 All Pain Is One Malady)
Saddle up as we discuss the fourth part of a five-part mega-crossover event between Laws & Orders Organized Crime and SVU. This week, we wonder if part-time adjunct professorship confers magical powers, while Josh becomes CBS-show curious. We also see Chief McGrath turn the flummoxed dial up to 11, and we see the last time SVU is graced with the presence of Detective Muncy as she's poochied off to the DEA, or DAs office, or something.
Episode 205: It's Not as Dark as the Licorice Hole (S24E21 Bad Things)
The Randomizer (episode.lol--use it!) decided that we didn't have enough on our plate already and gave us a FIVE-PART ORGANIZED CRIME CROSSOVER EVENT to unpack, starting with the second of the five installments (and first of the SVUs), S24E21 Bad Things. Often these unwieldy offerings aren't particularly fun, but despite the fact that a dark story arc keeps getting darker and darker, there's a lot of fun to be had throughout this sprawling ep of SVU.
Episode 203: We’ve Seen Kid Rapists (S22E1 Guardians And Gladiators)
The first episode back from lockdown and the tumultuous summer of 2020 has our SVUs grappling with their own existence. Can they reckon with the role they've played in the realm of copaganda? Can they talk about systemic racism without doing the racism themselves? Can they figure out how to wear masks in the throes of the pandemic? These are questions that the Munchie Boys are forced to answer in this navel-gazing episode of SVU.
Episode 202: The Mouthfeel Is Creamy (S22E9 Return Of The Prodigal Son)
The grand return of Elliot Stabler (and family) to SVU would probably hit harder if we were watching these eps in order one at a time. That, however, is not how we do things at Munch My Benson. Instead, we are treated to an investigation that is way, WAY outside the Special Victims Unit's purview, and which won't pay off in an episode of SVU (if it ever does). Still, it's fun to see how Dickie Stabler has grown up and to indulge in the wildest fan service fantasies that were surely swirling when this one first dropped.
Episode 198: Dr. Tim, Medicine Wanker (S24E12 Blood Out)
We're back with the third and final installment of the Season 24 BX9/Oscar Papa epic which began with Benson nearly getting hacked to death on the street outside her apartment. This time we get a lovely little diversion in the form of a Fin and Terry Bruno side quest in the Bronx. Before SVU can finally turn the screws on super criminal Oscar Papa, we witness the shocking end of a recurring character, and we end with a famous case of fan service blue balls.
Episode 197: It’s Like She’s Getting Pumped for Her WWE Fight (S24E11 Soldier Up)
Still in Three-Parter Land, the Munchie Boys tackle the middle chapter of the BX9 saga that sends our intrepid SVUs north to the Bronx, where they have to continue fixing Bronx SVU while Liv chases down the gang that took a run at her with machetes last week. This means Liv has to trust Captain Mike Duarte (a tall order for her), and this means that Duarte has to trust that Liv can relearn how to police without getting waylaid by tunnel vision, the thing that led to this situation in the first place but which Liv won't accede to being the case. Fortunately, we continue to get new blood working cases, which actually makes for some SVU that's probably more interesting than any 24th-season episode of a television show should be.
Episode 196: Is the Breathalyzer Broken Cause Liv Seems Drunk? (S24E10 Jumped In)
In the first episode of a sweeping, mega, three-parter, Benson and Noah are nearly hacked to death by a crew of gangsters with a deep grudge. This sparks SVU to head north to the Bronx, meet some new and old friends, attempt to fix a massive NYPD screwup, and solve the rapes of 6, or maybe 12, young deaf girls. Get comfortable because we are going to be in this case for a while.
Episode 192: They're Trying to Joe Camel the Sex Toy Market (S21E15 Swimming With The Sharks)
Things get spicy when Benson, Rollins, and Tamin go to a convention hosted by a hot women's wellness brand and leave with more than just a treasure trove of impossible vibrildos and yoni eggs. Adam's middle school trumpet rival leads an ensemble cast that some how adds up to less than the sum of its parts in this "bad boss is raped by worse employees in a ludicrous scheme to kick her out of the business" caper.
Episode 184: He's Never Going to Get the Cum Blankie Back (S23E4 One More Tale Of Two Victims)
It's Velasco's first official day on the unit, which means that Fin, Rollins, and Benson will all be adjusting to almost having a reasonable number of investigators. Of course, it also means that Chief McGrath now has eyes inside the unit. While season-long arcs are all well and good, we Munchers are after the good stuff, which in this episode means pondering the physics of rooftop coitus and digging deep into the unintentional racism in which certain iterations of this show sometimes traffic.
Episode 172: Make America Waco Again (S24E19 Bend The Law)
Deep Velasco backstories! Lorraine Maxwell smokes a dude! Terry Bruno! Churlish eats nothing but smooth white foods! Poor Adam has basically no idea who any of these people are, but we tighten our belts and do our best to break down this radically new SVU. Oh, and we're making Churlasco a thing.
Episode 162: Poor Dude Thinks He Prejacked a Kid (S23E13 If I Knew Then What I Know Now)
This week, SVU investigates the coldest of cold cases while dishing out hot servings of delicious Amanda Rollins fan-service content and heaping portions of Staten Island food. Rollisi come clean, Rolldhun never happens, and Benson meets two-time National League Cy Young Award winner, Jacob DeGrom.
Episode 159: He Feeds Off the Smirk of His Clients (S23E5 Fast Times @TheWheelhouse)
Late SVU gets down with influencer incubators this week, and we're treated to some pretty epic douchebros treating an up-and-coming TikToker very badly. This means there's timely pop music punctuating the cold open, some pretty brutal implementation of influencerese, and some odd Organized Crime storylines crossing over into this episode. It's a strange world we're stepping into this week, but that doesn't mean there's not plenty of Rollisi-related content to keep us going.
Episode 142: I'm Not Gonna Kink Shame a 12-Year-Old (S23E11 Burning With Rage Forever)
In our first brush with Season 23, the Randomizer (episode.lol) gifted us with the sight of that precious little Baby Boy Doe himself locked in a cage being forced to eat dog food by one of his friends. This kind of depravity only happens on SVU, folks. Of course, the madness only begins there as we are treated to a truly bonkers world where no child is ever, EVER safe. Along the way, the Munchie Boys go way off the rails with loads of esoteric content. Fans of that stuff will really enjoy the unedited Patreon edition which features an additional 40 minutes of fun.
